GOALS AND STRATEGIES

Just as The Thomas Foundation's Vision and Mission are forthright, so are its goals. The Foundation is a catalyst and change-agent, working strategically with conservation scientists and field experts to identify needs and implement problem solving programs.

As well as holding the Vision of stopping further decline in Australia's flora and fauna, our 10-year goals are:

  • to increase the populations of certain currently threatened species; and to
  • raise $500 million in new funds from public and private sources for science based conservation.

To achieve these goals, our strategies are to:

  • actively partner with the most effective conservation organisations and individuals, particularly those that promise new solutions;
  • fund educational programs for outstanding individuals working to preserve Australia's biodiversity, and to encourage more young scientists to embrace the discipline;
  • raise awareness of the decline in Australia's biodiversity and its consequences;
  • stimulate increased investment in private conservation activities in Australia, with a target of $500 million in new Government grants, foundation grants, bequests and private donations by 2018;
  • provide an avenue of recognised expertise to assist efficient conservation investment by corporations, foundations and individuals; and
  • set high standards as an exemplary, philanthropic body focussed on strategic partnerships, and willing to assist others with similar aims and objectives.
